Students from the Husky Growth Fund traveled to Chicago in November to network with multiple finance industry leaders.
The trip offered a variety of travel experiences and seminars giving students opportunities to network and educate themselves on real life aspects of finance.
The Husky Growth Fund is a St. Cloud State student-run investment portfolio that totals at around $200,000, which motivated the group to organize a trip to get a glimpse of their career opportunities after college.

With the help of Craig Popp ’00 of RBC Wealth Management, seminars were arranged from two leading investment firms, William Blair and Company and Harris Associates, providing educational lessons with practical application, motivating success for your career and wealth management.
“I believe amount of networking done with companies and the time spent bonding between the groups members could be the biggest asset going forward,” said William Shay, Braham, a senior in finance and current Husky Growth Fund vice president.
The team also visited Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, to learn more about the Kellogg School of Management and their MBA and Masters of Science in management studies programs, and sample courses that are offered through Kellogg’s programming.
In addition, the students toured around Chicago including a tour of the Chicago Board Options Exchange floor from a professional trader, and an opportunity to see what it is like to work at UBS Financial Services, one of the world’s largest banks. Deborah Wheeler, executive director for the Midwest Financial Services for UBS, gave students a personal tour arranging first-hand access to trading rooms and personnel at all levels from first year employees to Regional Executives for students to ask questions.
As ambassadors for St Cloud State, many students expressed that the trip was a highlight of their experience at the Herberger Business School.
