Black Sox look to build on winning tradition

Stevens Point Journal – A three-peat is on the mind of the Plover American Legion Post 543 baseball coach Wayne Sankey.

His Black Sox have reached the Class AAA Great Lakes Regional in each of the last two years, placing fourth in 2013 and grabbing a runner-up finish last summer.

One of the most notable returners is left-handed pitcher Cal Giese, who has a 17-1 overall record and last year was named MVP of the state tournament.

“(Giese) has been really good for us and for SPASH. He red-shirted at St. Cloud State this year, so he didn’t play, so he’s excited to finally get on the field and very excited to have one more season to play Legion ball,” Sankey said.
