St. Cloud State University and the St. Cloud State Nursing Club collected more than $1,200 for “Tackle Cancer” on Oct. 17 at the Huskies home football game versus Minot State.
A collaboration between the Minnesota Football Coaches Association and the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund, “Tackle Cancer” collects donations from the community to help fund additional cancer research.
“Cancer has touched every one of us,” said Susan Herm, associate professor of Nursing. “Every community in Minnesota will benefit from the great research and community aide.”
Herm’s husband, Larry, is the head football coach at Foley and is part of the Tackle Cancer Committee. Both decided to help bring the event to St. Cloud State.
Less than ten percent of the monies raised by “Tackle Cancer” are spent on administrative costs, making it one of the most efficient uses of the charitable donations.
Grants given are spent on technology and tools that enhance early detection of cancer, new programs promoting research to help prevent cancer relapses, projects that demonstrate research in the area of cancer and programs that enhance the lives of Minnesota’s cancer community by providing aid and assistance.
