‘Celebrations’ raises scholarship funds, honors faculty

St. Cloud State Department of Music will celebrate the accomplishments of students and faculty with “Celebrations 2016” a Scholarship Fundraiser Gala at 7:30 p.m. April 16 in Ritsche Auditorium in Stewart Hall.

The event honors students and faculty along with the department’s partnerships with scholarship donors, alumni and faculty emeriti with musical performances.

Staff Sgt. Alicia Eisenstadt ’10 will perform the Kennan “Sonata for Trumpet” with the Wind Ensemble. St. Cloud State cello faculty member Joel Salvo will perform with the Percussion Ensemble.

The Concert Choir, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble will join together for a mass collaboration to perform popular selections from Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with voice faculty member Catherine Verrilli performing as soprano soloist.

The event will also honor the accomplishments of retiring faculty member Richard Hansen and friend of the department Joseph Edelheit.

A published historian, Hansen was director of bands from 1983-2012. Edelheit was a central figure in organizing department’s 2008 tour of Europe, which featured a performance of Stephen Paulus’ oratorio “To Be Certain of the Dawn” at the Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp.

Admission is $20 and all ticket proceeds directly benefit music scholarships at St. Cloud State. Tickets can be purchased at www.scsutickets.com or at the door.
