Hundreds of spectators gathered in Halenbeck Hall on April 9 to show respect and commemorate the Grand Entry opening event for the for the 22nd annual Pow-Wow hosted by St. Cloud State’s American Indian Center.
The pow-wow is a traditional celebration of life for Native Americans. It is a time for families to gather and renew friendships, to sing, dance and spiritually bond. During the Grand Entry, dancers parade before spectators.
The Grand Entry was led by head male dancer Joe Erler, head female dancer Naomi Pigeon and the Fond du Lac Honor Guard. Drum host was Red Tree with invited drummers from Little Thunder and Timberland. Mickey Hodges was the emcee and the spiritual advisor was Ron Leith.
