Art vendors, food stands, children’s activities and seven musical acts on the World Commons Stage are expected to draw thousands to the Lemonade Concert and Art Fair 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. June 23 at St. Cloud State.
St. Cloud State’s signature summer event will feature performances by the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra and the opening ceremony of St. Cloud’s annual community festival, Granite City Days.
Among the nearly 200 art vendors are potter Tim Connors, woodworker Grant Kaihoi and photographer Susan Fries.
Parking is free on streets adjacent to campus and $1.50 per hour in the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp. A free shuttle service will run from K and Q parking lots to the center of campus, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
In its 43rd year, the fair welcomes new and returning musical groups to the World Commons Stage:
11 a.m. — Jazz.Combo, Central Minnesota’s youth band plays jazz and big band classics
Noon — St. Paul-based Hot Date features Nora O’Brien and Eric Carranza, with a cast of side musicians that includes Pratik Suwal Singh ’09 on tabla and guitar.
1 p.m. — Pantown Project, a folk-indie duo from St. Cloud.
2 p.m. — Adam Hammer & Dave Cofell Folk ‘n’ Blues Show, a St. Cloud-area duo that includes guitarist-vocalist Hammer, a 2005 graduate.
3 p.m. — Five Good Reasons is a multi-genre, five-voice, a capella group that includes Kristen (Marschel) Mattick ’09 and Jody Martinson ’04.
4 p.m. — Paige Gielen is a 13-year-old singer-songwriter from Albany.
5 p.m. — Juan Kuffner is an accordionist, fiddler and singer with roots in southeast Louisiana. Listen to his recordings, below.
Veteran multi-instrumentalist Paul Imholte ’82 will roam the fairgrounds 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
The Little Lemons Art Park will offer children art projects, craft projects, performance art and more. Paramount Arts District staff members will coordinate activities 11 a.m.-6 p.m., south of Stewart Hall.
Mayor Dave Kleis will honor recipients of the Rock-On Awards during the 6:30 p.m. Granite City Days opening ceremony. The award recognizes St. Cloud individuals, organizations and businesses that have demonstrated outstanding civic participation, leadership and achievements. Among the winners is John Delante Smith ’11, who works at Promise Neighborhood St. Cloud, a non-profit that works to improve student outcomes.
The symphony follows at 7:30 p.m. with an hour concert that includes, among other performances, three patriotic works, two show tunes and “Comedians’ Galop” from Dmitry Kabalevsky’s “The Comedians.” Guest conducting will be Brian DeMaris, a conductor, composer, recording artist and teacher. DeMaris is artistic director of the Arizona State University Lyric Opera Theatre.
Farmer’s market vendors will offer fresh produce, plants and more between the Miller Center and Administrative Services Building.
The Lemonade Concert and Art Fair is managed by the Department of Campus Involvement, with sponsorship from CapitalOne, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union and Your Home Improvement Company. The symphony’s appearance is funded by the Central Minnesota Arts Board, via the state Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
