Interim President Ashish Vaidya welcomes new students to campus during the Opening Ceremony.

New students had a chance to explore campus and make new friends during welcoming events and the 2016 Opening Ceremony.

After moving into campus and saying farewell to parents and siblings, students enjoyed a welcome picnic in Garvey Commons, a Huskies Welcome orientation in Huskies Stadium and an Opening Ceremony in the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

More than 1,200 new and transfer students gathered at Husky Stadium for orientation games and a group photo. More than 1,100 of them stuck around to be greeted by Interim President Ashish Vaidya, St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis ’89 and Student Government Leaders Mikaela Johnson and Randall Olson. 

Afterward more than 1,200 new and returning students gathered at the Atwood Memorial Center to enjoy food and games during late-night programming.

Events are planned throughout the First Four Days and First Four Weeks to help all new and returning students prepare for a successful year.
