Individuals possessing a business degree who are looking to expand their career into the field of accounting will soon have a convenient way of completing the necessary accounting education required to take the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) Exam.

The 18-month program covers financial accounting, auditing, taxation and management accounting in addition to related content. The courses are delivered sequentially in a cohort model. Each course will run for eight weeks and all the courses are taught online. The first cohort begins in January 2017.
The CPA Exam Education Eligibility program provides the accounting credits required for taking the CPA exam in a way that is convenient for full-time workers, said Kate Mooney, St. Cloud State accounting faculty and professor in the CPA Exam Education Eligibility program.
“The online courses offer the same high-quality accounting instruction by the same faculty that teach in our very successful undergraduate accounting major,” she said. “The difference is this program offers ramped-up intensity for mature students with work experience who want the CPA credential after having earned a non-accounting business degree.”
The CPA Exam Education Eligibility program is open to individuals who have earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited school or college in any business major, other than accounting.
Individuals who complete the CPA Exam Education Eligibility program will be eligible to take the CPA Exam as a Minnesota resident regardless of where they live or take the exam.
“The accounting profession is growing dramatically and hiring trends show no sign of slowing down any time soon,” Mooney said. “There are a wide variety of accounting careers one can pursue with a CPA, and the CPA designation provides evidence of an individual’s depth and breadth of competence in a wide range of accounting areas.”
