UTVS and Husky Productions earn six national nods

More awards for display cases in Stewart Hall, thanks to UTVS TV and Husky Productions.

St. Cloud State student media stars are expected to accept six awards at the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) convention April 22-25 in Las Vegas.

Our mass communications majors will be side-by-side with students from universities such as Arizona State, Penn State, Oklahoma State and Illinois State.

BEA Festival of Media Arts is a refereed exhibition of faculty creative activities and a showcase for student work. Award winners are among more than 1,450 entries from more than 175 colleges and universities that competed in audio, documentary, interactive multimedia, news, scriptwriting, sports, two-year/small college and video categories.

UTVS and Husky Productions students have enjoyed BEA success in recent years. Husky Productions, a division of UTVS, earned Best of Festival nods — the highest honor — in 2016, 2015, 2013 and 2011.

The 5 p.m. and 6 p.m “UTVS News” broadcasts are carried by Charter Communications in the St. Cloud area and streamed live each weekday during the academic year.

Husky Productions (HP) manages broadcasts of Huskies Athletics events, including women’s and men’s Huskies Hockey games. HP broadcasts are sometimes carried by regional and national networks. Derrick Silvestri ’06 is the UTVS advisor and studio manager. Brian Stanley ’93 is executive producer of Husky Productions.

BEA’s 62nd convention and 15th awards festival is at the Las Vegas Westgate. The BEA convention is held each spring in conjunction with National Association of Broadcasters Show. The festival is sponsored by BEA and the Charles & Lucille King Family Foundation.
