St. Cloud State University Monday welcomed its first cohort of students from Rikkyo University in Japan.

The 15 students arrived to study English in the Intensive English Center.

The students are living in residential halls throughout campus, and three of them are also taking St. Cloud State courses in their majors.

St. Cloud State and Rikkyo University became institutional partners in May 2016. The partnership includes exchange students and faculty exchanges.

Two exchange students from St. Cloud State studying at Rikkyo University receive free housing during their stay and free Japanese language classes each year.

Rikkyo University is located in Tokyo. It offers a Japanese studies in English program where English-speaking exchange students take courses alongside Japanese students and learn about Asian countries and culture.
