Students learned career advice from the woman who wrote the book on career building and the job-search process.

Dorothy Billingsly, CEO of Billingsly Associates and author of “Chart Your Course” sat down with Herberger Business School students Aug. 29 for a conversation about how to prepare for a career. The talk was the first C-Conversation, a series of presentations that will bring C-level executives to St. Cloud State University to speak with students for how to prepare for success in business.

Alumni joined in the conversation via webinar.

Billingsly started out by giving her advice about interviewing, sales, networking and the importance of mentors. Then she answered questions from students and alumni about their pre-career concerns.

Billingsly is founder of Billingsly Associates LLC, an executive search and consulting firm.

She has more than 30 years of experience conducting senior level, retained executive searches for board members, chairs, C-suite executives and their management teams. Her services also include culture shaping, leadership development and executive team coaching and alignment.

“Chart Your Course” is a guide on career building and the job search-process that is designed to help students and people starting their careers think strategically about their future.

The conversation was part of a broader visit by Billingsly and Joel Rado, also of Billingsly Associates, who spoke to students in business classes, counseled students in the Career Center, met with Herberger Business School advisers and discussed talent acquisition with local executives.
