Irena Ravitskaya, a pianist on the faculty at Ft. Hays State University in Kansas, will be performing at 6 p.m. Oct. 20 in the Performing Arts Center.
Ravitskaya is originally from Moldova in the former Soviet Union and began playing the piano at age 6. At age 9, she won the National Competition of Moldova. At age 16, Ravitskaya won the Young Artists State Competition, followed by an invitation to perform with the National Symphony Orchestra. Her performances have been broadcast on National Radio and Moldova State Television. Ravitskaya had her first musical training in her native town, where she attended the State School of Music.
Since emigrating to the United States in 1995 and building on her early musical success in Moldova and performances with the National Symphony Orchestra of the USSR, she has earned a masters degree from Boise State University and a doctoral degree from Indiana University.
She will perform a solo piano program of music by Beethoven, Schuman, Medtner, and Prokofiev. Performance will be in the Ruth Gant Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.
