Join the St. Cloud State University Malaysian Students Association when they present a night market-themed cultural night extravaganza 5:30-10 p.m. Feb. 2 in the Atwood Ballroom.
“Night markets are famous in Malaysia due to the fact that they sell cheap food along a busy street where cars drive down in the day, but at night it’s bustling with people and tents selling a variety of food, clothes, electronic products,” said president of the Malaysian Students Association, Jean Ann Tan. “We believe this theme encompasses Malaysia very well, and since it’s something people should experience once in their life, we have decided to bring it right here to St. Cloud State.”
The event will feature nine performances, such as singing, dancing and a fashion show, as well as traditional food commonly found in the night market.
Tickets are $7 for St. Cloud State students and faculty and $8 for the general public.
“We have a happy hour from 12-1 p.m. at our ticket booths in Atwood this week and next week, where tickets can be bought for $6,” Tan said. Tickets will be sold at the door on the day of the event and the ticket booth in Atwood on January 25 and 29-31 as well as Feb. 1-2.
“Malaysian Students Association emphasizes on sharing our cultural heritage and building a connection with other fellow Malaysians and also the diverse student populations here at St. Cloud State University,” Tan said. “Our organization has hosted multiple events that are not limited to just our members.”
Cultural festivals are one way the university is providing a transformative educational experience for students to help prepare them to be global citizens at home, at work and in their communities. More than 1,000 students from about 90 nations attend St. Cloud State, and cultural festivals give them an opportunity to share elements of their culture with the campus community.
