The Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) is holding its cultural night at 6 p.m. March 24 in the Atwood Memorial Center Ballroom.
“Our theme this year is street market, which is an inherent part of the Vietnamese culture since many homeowners create businesses in front of or at the ground floor of their homes,” said Linda Nguyen, VSA president. “We will also have bubble tea for sale and artwork up for bargain for a more street market experience.”
The night will feature traditional Vietnamese food and clothing and will also feature performances and interactive activities to help people understand Vietnamese culture.
“Activities include watercolor painting, origami, photo booth, chopstick challenges, and so on,” Nguyen said.
The VSA will be selling tickets at kiosks in Atwood March 19-23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The ticket price will be $7 and at the door prices will be $9.
“We want the audience to leave with a better understanding of the Vietnamese culture and lifestyle,” she said.
VSA’s mission is to provide an environment for students with Vietnamese heritage and those interested in Vietnam to learn about the country’s culture and traditions and build lifelong friendships and leadership skills throughout their college careers, Nguyen said.
Cultural festivals are one way the university is providing a transformative educational experience for students to help prepare them to be global citizens at home, at work and in their communities. More than 1,000 students from about 90 nations attend St. Cloud State, and cultural festivals give them an opportunity to share elements of their culture with the campus community.
