GeoClub officers organized and led a weekend trip to northeast Minnesota Sept. 13-15 to see first-hand what the area had to offer from a geographic standpoint. Adventurers included geography majors as well as students from other majors across campus.
The weekend included stops to the Maritime Museum in Duluth, industrial heritage sites in Two Harbors, a tour of Split Rock Lighthouse, and the exploration of Gooseberry Falls State Park.
Geography professor Mikhail Blinnikov met up with the group and shared his knowledge of the region’s volcanic and post-glacial geomorphology along the shore of Lake Superior.
We applaud these students for taking the initiative to think outside the textbook, to seek out experiences and information beyond what they have learned in the classroom.
The GeoClub organizes regular social and geography-related events such as trips, GeoTrivia and geocaching activities.
