KNSI – A statue was put in place to honor and remember a legendary St. Cloud State University college hockey coach over the weekend.
A bronze statue to salute Herb Brooks, who served as the Huskies’ head coach in 1986-87 and played a pivotal role in the Huskies’ move to the NCAA Division I level in 1987-88, was unveiled Saturday. The coach was also a key figure in building the then National Hockey Center in 1989.
The monument commemorates the ‘Miracle on Ice’ moment when Brooks was the head coach of the USA Men’s Hockey Team and beat the Russian squad in 1980.
