St. Cloud State University is excited to announce that Dr. Claudia Tomany will join St. Cloud State University as Associate Provost for Research and Sponsored Programs and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies beginning July 1.
Dr. Tomany comes to St. Cloud State from North Dakota State University, where she has served as Dean of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies since 2016. At NDSU, Tomany oversaw graduate student recruitment and admissions, academic support services and supported faculty grant writing, and was involved with many major initiatives, including the Graduate Professional Skills Academy, Center for Writers and the Professional Master’s Degree Initiative to diversify the university’s program portfolio.
“Dr. Tomany joins our team with a wealth of experience as a professor and administrator,” said Provost Dan Gregory. “I am excited for her to join the SCSU team and I am very much looking forward to working with her on building the It’s Time strategy in graduate education and research, scholarship and creative activity.”
As Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Associate Provost for Research and Sponsored Programs, Dr. Tomany plays a pivotal role in setting strategic direction for the graduate school and the research unit; strengthening current programs and developing new initiatives; and actively fostering and supporting scholarship and creative activities.
Prior to NDSU, she was Vice Provost at Saint Xavier University in Chicago; Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies Dean at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado; and Assistant Vice President for Undergraduate Studies and International Education and Director of Scandinavian Studies at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Dr. Tomany has a PhD and master’s degree from the University of Munich, Germany, in English and Scandinavian Studies, and a bachelor’s degree from University of Bergen, Norway in Scandinavian Studies and German.
