St. Cloud State University’s Multicultural Student Services presents the 12th annual Power in Diversity Leadership Conference — Unleash Justice — virtually Jan. 29-30.
For more than a decade, the Power in Diversity Leadership Conference has been instrumental in fostering personal growth and leadership skill development among college students of color and underrepresented students.
This year we are honored to host two speakers who through their experiences and knowledge of social justice are sure to inspire and re-energize all who attend this signature event. Conference proceedings include opportunities for discussion and leadership development. Students have access to job fairs as a way of learning how interest in social justice can translate into careers that can change a life, a community, and the world.
Event Information
Free to attend and open to all, the conference features a Presidential Round Table led by President Robbyn Wacker at noon Jan. 29 where she will lead a discussion with colleagues St. Cloud Technical & Community College President Annesa Cheek and Southwest Minnesota State University President Kumara Jayasuriya. Chancellor Devinder Malhotra will provide lunchtime remarks during the conference that day.
Conference Speakers
Yusef Salaam, a member of the Central Park Five, will open the conference on Jan. 29 and share his journey and personal experiences fighting for justice.
Crystal Leigh Endsley, activist and professor of Africana Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, will give her keynote address Jan. 30.
She will set the stage for a racial caucusing activity. Participants will self-select into racial identity conversation groups such as Native American; Asian, South Asian; Black/African/African American; Middle Eastern; Chicanx/Latinx; Multiracial and White Ally. These discussions will be facilitated by skilled faculty, staff and community members. While in these safe spaces, people of color will share their experiences of racism and internalized racism and work toward empowerment. White ally’s will examine and discuss whiteness and white privilege. Endsley will then close the conference with an address that honors these individual and group experiences and unites participants in solidarity.
Diversity Job and Internship Fair
The Diversity Job and Internship Fair 1-4 p.m. Jan. 29 allows participants to explore career options and network with many of Minnesota’s largest business, technical, healthcare, government, non-profit and education employers.
