SCSU Earns National Recognition
Colleges of Distinction advocates for schools whose undergraduate experiences are grounded in a philosophy of well-rounded, individualized engagement. St. Cloud State University has excelled at having students graduate and enter the workforce with solid, well-developed critical thinking skills as well as the ability to adapt in an ever-changing society.
Now, more than ever, it’s important for those entering the job market to have the kind of experiential education offered in the Business, Education, Nursing and Engineering programs at St. Cloud State.
“We are thrilled with this recognition as it demonstrates our commitment as a university to provide a premier education in the areas of holistic health and wellness, leadership, education and engineering and applied science,” said St. Cloud State University President Robbyn Wacker. “As a signature piece of the university’s It’s Time framework for the future, we are pleased to offer undergraduate and graduate degrees that are closely aligned with industries and careers that are in high demand.”
Already honored as a College of Distinction for its high-impact approach to education, St. Cloud State has received specialized recognition in Business, Education, Nursing and Engineering. These additional accolades were borne out of a need for college curricula that are comprehensive not only in course material, but also in practical- and soft-skills development. St. Cloud State has met these needs with a blend of liberal arts education, program-specific training, and abundant opportunities for real-world application.
“We complete a thorough review of the programs in question before giving the awards,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “We’re looking for such qualities as accreditation, breadth of program, advising and mentoring, integration of career services, and successful outcomes for students. It’s wonderful to see how St. Cloud State really exemplifies these qualities.”
Education
St. Cloud State is proud to graduate future educators who are not only knowledgeable, but also efficient mentors who provide empathetic support and novel teaching methods. St. Cloud State College of Education and Learning Design’s Education programs include Elementary Education, Special Education, Higher Education, Early Childhood Education, Technology Education, Library Media, Educational Leadership, and a focus on area specific training for secondary school educators in the sciences and social sciences.
Nursing
The accredited Nursing program in St. Cloud State’s College of Health and Wellness Professions has enabled its students to take calculated action even in high-pressure situations. With four full years at St. Cloud State, these students are challenged to remain curious and compassionate throughout their rigorous practice. Concentrations in Nursing include a Bachelor of Science program and an RN bachelor’s degree completion program. The Nursing department is also working with the University of Minnesota to support graduate nursing students while developing a Doctor of Nursing Practice that will focus on Family Nurse Practitioner that will launch in 2025.
Business
Globalization and the intricacies of modern business operations require effective communication and apt problem-solving strategies. St. Cloud State Herberger Business School’s programs in Real Estate, Finance, Insurance, Professional Selling, Business Administration, Management, Accounting, Marketing, Information Systems and Entrepreneurship keep their future leaders adaptable as they grow alongside their industry.
Engineering
The Engineering Badge honors St. Cloud State’s College of Science and Engineering for its Environmental, Software, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical and Computer engineering programs. Students in these programs are guided to take their creativity into their own hands, innovating and evolving as quickly as the technological landscape in which they study.
