St. Cloud State Esports organizers Daryl Scholz and Chris Stanley, together with Shift Up Esports’ Toby Thongphasavanh ’14, presented at BestPrep’s Technology Integration Workshop this August.
The workshop provided opportunities for K-12 educators to learn about new and emerging educational technologies as they developed a unit plan to be used in the 2022-23 school year.
St. Cloud State launched its own Esports initiative in 2021 with two campus Esports lounges, a residential Esports lounge, a competitive Rocket League team starting this fall and a new Esports Management Minor offered by Herberger Business School this fall.
The session led by Stanley, Scholz and Thongphasavanh helped teachers learn about the benefits of Esports and how the industry is creating enriching careers. The trio also encouraged school leaders to begin clubs in their school and shared resources to help get clubs off the ground.
Attendees had an interest in bolstering their schools’ technology use and knowledge among students and staff through gaming and Esports.
BestPrep Technology Integration Workshop is a professional development opportunity for educators of all grade levels and subject areas that focuses on new and emerging technologies to enhance lesson effectiveness and student engagement.
