St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Technical & Community College (SCTCC) will once again welcome local students to campus in July to learn about a career in healthcare and to get hands-on insight into healthcare professions.
SCSU’s College of Health and Wellness Professions is partnering with SCTCC to host “Scrubs Camp 2023: Healthcare in Our Own Back Yard” on July 25-27 at SCSU.
Through experiential learning, Scrubs Camp is designed to provide opportunities for middle and high school students within Central Minnesota to explore healthcare and human services related careers. By partnering with local employers, students were exposed to in-demand careers with the goal of these students becoming the future health and human services workforce.
Around 60 campers ages 12-18 will participate in activities facilitated by professionals and faculty to discover how healthcare careers fit into a wide range of interest areas. From Equine Therapy at an actual farm to the Red Cross Emergency Mobile Response Vehicle being on hand, campers will learn what is available and what they would have to do to become ready for the professions in their own back yard.
Attendees will have the opportunity to take field trips to healthcare-related agencies, experience hands-on simulation activities exploring careers such as nursing, radiology, surgery and public health, will take part in challenging team building activities and will be provided meals and snacks throughout the camp.
Scrubs Camp is a collaborative effort between businesses and industries of the St. Cloud region, SCSU, SCTCC and HealthForce Minnesota. The 2023 sponsors are CentraCare Health and The Good Shepherd Community. Those interested in future Scrubs Camp’s can learn more online and can also register for a Scrubs Camp Scholarship.
