Those who visit the fourth floor of Centennial Hall at St. Cloud State University will notice newly-renovated study and office spaces for Herberger Business School (HBS) students, faculty, staff and others on campus.
The updated space provides students with a unique, state-of-the-art space to complete homework, work on projects or study for exams, hang out with friends and classmates, interact with faculty and staff, schedule an advising appointment, make a room reservation, learn more about clubs available through HBS and more.
On the fourth floor of Centennial Hall, students can find a new HBS Advising and Student Success Center, which provides individualized advising to ensure students achieve their personal, professional and academic goals, as well as a new HBS Student Lounge for a space to gather or complete coursework. Other features within the refreshed space includes new multifunctional furniture, upgraded conference room technology, upgraded flooring and signage, and more.
“The new spaces turned out beautifully. The updates represent in a physical space what our vision for HBS is: engaging, inviting, open, student focused, modern,” said Dr. Katherina Pattit, Dean of the Herberger Business School. “The furniture and design of the space showcases the new and updated HBS and SCSU colors as well as the elevated experience we hope to offer students, faculty and staff. In just a few weeks, we have started seeing more students utilize the spaces and the student club area is starting to draw attention from HBS students and students across campus who have found their way to the fourth floor.”
The Academic Service Center includes staff from departments and programs, including Accounting, Economics, Finance, Insurance and Real Estate, Geography and Planning, Information Systems, Management and Entrepreneurship, Marketing and more.
“The main goal for these updates was to offer students a more streamlined service experience and more opportunities for engagement and interaction, both with fellow student as well as faculty and support staff,” Dean Pattit said. “We see this clearly in the newly-created Advising and Student Success Center and Academic Services space. It is a one-stop-shop for all things a student might need help with: course advisement, meeting scheduling with a faculty, getting forms and applications, reserving rooms for club meetings and much more. By locating services for students and services for faculty in the same location, we are also seeing more interaction opportunities between faculty and students.”
“While we are broadening our in-person course offerings this year, we realized that the demand for more flexible learning and interaction will remain and we need to prepare our students to be able to be successful in these environments,” Dean Pattit continued. “We are ready for the future – and our students are too.”
This new space was also featured as part of Homecoming 2023 at SCSU during an HBS Open House on Oct. 7 on the fourth floor of Centennial Hall.
