Faculty, staff and administrators from St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Technical & Community College joined together for a partnership summit on SCSU’s campus on July 16, demonstrating the two institutions dedication to collaborate on future endeavors.
“SCSU and SCTCC are both Minnesota State system institutions serving the greater St. Cloud area, so it’s important that we have a strong partnership,” said Dr. Jason Woods, Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at SCSU. “While this partnership is great for our faculty and staff, we hope that it will be even more beneficial for the students we both share. With 25 percent of our new-entering undergraduate students transferring from SCTCC, our success is interdependent on one another.”
“Finding ways for SCTCC and SCSU to jointly enhance the student experience by making better connections with transfer, degree completion and seamless services not only helps our shared students, but also contributes more graduates to the area workforce in Central Minnesota,” added Andrew Pflipsen, SCTCC’s Vice President of Student Affairs. “We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead!”
SCTCC is SCSU’s number one feeder institution and has six transfer pathways that align with 11 SCSU programs including Business, Psychology and Elementary Education.

The two institutions have also partnered on the SCSU Transfer EDVANTAGE Program, which is designed for students who want to begin their college experience at a Minnesota State community college but are seeking a clear and attainable path to a bachelor’s degree.
Tuesday’s event included breakout sessions on student affairs/student success, academic affairs and admissions and advising. Transfer student trends nationally and in the state of Minnesota were also discussed.
“This partnership summit was a truly unique and special opportunity for staff, faculty and administrators from SCTCC and SCSU to come together and begin the conversation of developing a shared vision, establishing common goals and aligning our institutional strategies to ensure transfer student success remains at the forefront of our priorities,” said Mike Coonen, SCSU’s Director of Transfer Partnerships & Collaboration. “I am grateful for the encouraging and proactive leadership from both campuses and their commitment to nurturing this work. I look forward to growing our partnership with SCTCC and making SCSU the transfer institution of choice in Minnesota.”
