St. Cloud city council member Hudda Ibrahim visited professor Rob Galler’s Minnesota History class on April 15, detailing her experiences and approach to writing her book that remains popular with SCSU students and the community.
Galler’s class recently completed Ibrahim’s 2017 book “From Somalia to Snow: How Central Minnesota Became Home to Somalis.”
“Over the course of the semester, students in Minnesota History explore new perspectives of the state through different books, presentations, videos and discussions,” Galler said. “The history, social studies, geography and film studies students consider new dimensions to Minnesota’s history.”
Ibrahim was joined by her husband Abdi Mahad, who earned his master’s degree at SCSU. Ibrahim discussed her and Mahad’s background and coming to St. Cloud, which paralleled many of the points the students had studied in her book.
“She shared experiences, her approach to writing the book and new projects she is working on with the class,” Galler said. “A lively discussion followed at the end of class as Ibrahim responded to questions from students.”
The visit concluded with Ibrahim signing students’ copies of her book.
