Student research and coursework will be on full display April 25, as the Honors Showcase highlights the innovative work being done by St. Cloud State University students.
The Honors College will be hosting their annual research and creative presentation event from 12:15-1:45 p.m. on April 25 at the SCSU Innovation Hub in Miller Center Room 102.
Among the courses represented in this year’s event is Honors 160 Hip Hop Cultural Studies. Students critically examine the aesthetic, cultural and political components of hip-hop, including its elements—DJing, MCing, breakdancing, and graffiti—as well as its broader cultural practices like fashion, language and activism. Honors Showcase presentations will include graffiti, spoken word, class-composed beats and a collaborative mural the class completed earlier this month.
“This is just one example of the unique courses offered through the Honors College that is open to all students across campus, whether they are in Honors or not,” said Jennifer Cavalli, executive director of the Honors College.
Other courses featured include Honors 195 AI for Everyone: An Interdisciplinary Exploration and Honors 106 Community Connections.
AI for Everyone offers an accessible and comprehensive interdisciplinary introduction to the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI), where Honors serves as a key space on campus for innovation in curriculum and teaching practices.
Presentations from the Community Connections class are also a key component of the Honors Showcase. Students explore and raise awareness of critical issues through sustained research into community organizations serving the St. Cloud area, uniting action and academic exploration.
“Community-engaged learning is a core element of the Honors College curriculum,” Cavalli said. “After conducting individual research, students collaborate in small groups to produce research posters.”
