St. Cloud State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) recently received two grants to aid their mission in supporting students’ mental and physical needs.
CAPS was awarded $2,500 from the Community Adult Mental Health Initiative (CAMHI) to purchase goods to help meet the basic needs of students with serious mental health conditions residing in the four-county area of Benton, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright.
“We recently had a student who was previously homeless and was starting out fresh in their own place; we were able to give this student basic needs supplies such as bedding and laundry detergent,” said CAPS Director Dr. Jennifer Rocheleau Dorholt. “We’ve also been able to purchase basic needs items like bathroom supplies, pillows, towels and winter items through CAMHI grant funding.”
CAPS was also awarded $8K from the Grachek-Svela Mental Health and Wellness Fund to support students with financial concerns related to the cost of counseling.
“The full cost of counseling isn’t always covered by health insurance, which can lead to out-of-pocket expenses,” added Rocheleau Dorholt. “This grant funding will help improve access to our services.”
CAPS provides counseling, crisis walk-in care and consultation or assessment visits to the campus community and often offers same week availability with no wait lists. Students can call 320-308-3171 for an appointment or book online.
