St. Cloud State University has officially launched a new academic structure that aims to deliver stronger academic programs that align with the region’s current workforce needs.

Three new colleges have been created to serve as pillars for the University’s mission for the future. Each pillar reflects a distinct area of focus, while working together to reduce complexity, encourage collaboration, and better serve students.

The College of Arts and Sciences serves as the pillar of Discovery and Understanding — grounding students in critical thinking, curiosity, and the foundational knowledge that connects learning to meaning.

The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences is the pillar of Care and Community — preparing professionals who strengthen communities through education, health, and human‑centered service.

The College of Business, Engineering, and Technology functions as the pillar of Innovation and Enterprise — advancing applied learning, industry partnership, and workforce‑aligned education.

The three colleges bring related programs together in more cohesive ways, allowing students to connect interests across fields and to prepare for their future careers.

“This new structure strengthens our academic quality and deepens our connection to workforce and community needs,” said SCSU President Dr. Gregory Tomso. “It will make our graduates better prepared to serve the industry needs of Central Minnesota in the present and future.”

Dr. Katherina Pattit, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said students will see direct benefits from realigning five colleges into three.

“These changes are designed to make a student’s journey more connected and easier to navigate,” Pattit said. “It will simplify their experience and provide stronger, more consistent support from enrollment through graduation.”

The new academic structure will create a more streamlined collection of student services. Advising, career development, and student success resources will be aligned closely within the colleges and provide coordinated support within each academic area.
