St. Cloud State University has named Brandon L. Johnson ’01 ’10 Vice President for Strategy, Communications, and Institutional Research.

Johnson brings more than two decades of service to SCSU. Most recently Associate Vice President for Academic Operations and Resources, he stewarded the University’s Academic Affairs budget, directed centralized course scheduling and academic space planning, and served as a strategic advisor to the Provost. His earlier SCSU roles spanned student success, inclusion, and residential life, including leadership of the University’s LGBT Resource Center. He has experience reaching across the academic, operational, and student-facing work of the institution.

He previously was SCSU’s MBA Director in the Herberger Business School, where he launched the University’s successful online MBA program, expanding access for working professionals across Minnesota and beyond. In 2022, he was honored by SCSU Advancement and Alumni Engagement with the University Leadership award.

In his new role, Johnson will lead implementation of the University’s strategic plan, translating institutional priorities into measurable outcomes across every division, and provide executive leadership to University Communications and Institutional Research, including building a single, trusted source for the University’s data and story.

“I’ve spent my career in higher education because I believe it is one of the most effective ways for people to positively transform their lives,” Johnson said. “I’m thrilled to begin this new role in guiding how SCSU tells its story and measuring how we meet the needs of our students and community.”
