The semi-formal event is presented by the Council of African American Students and is put on in conjunction with the Power in Diversity Conference Jan. 28-31 in Atwood Memorial Center.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. A show of acting, singing, dancing and spoken word poetry follows the meal. The performances focus on five aspects: men, women, the LGBT community, people of poverty and unity.
“For those attending, we would like them to gain some insight about the black community and also the evolution of our country and minorities,” said Jandeltha Paylue, Council of African American Students president. “We’ve come a long way from where we used to be, and we want to express that in a fun and lively way.”
The cost is $10 for students and staff or $12 for non-students.
Ebony Night is cosponsored by the Diversity Advisory Council and Multicultural Student Services.
The event is part of the cultural festivals series at St. Cloud State.
Cultural festivals are one way the university is providing a transformative educational experience for students to help prepare them to be global citizens at home, at work and in their communities. More than 1,000 students from 90-plus nations attend St. Cloud State, and cultural festivals give them an opportunity to share elements of their culture with the campus community.
