St. Cloud State University students have a new Student Government president and vice president elected into office for fall 2016 following elections in April.
Entering president, Mikaela Johnson, Sartell, and vice president, Randall Olson, Coon Rapids, topped the election polls with 56 percent of the votes.
This election marks the third consecutive term a female has been elected president.
Students agreed with a referendum question asking if they support the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) policy prohibiting alcohol on campus to allow St. Cloud State to set its own alcohol policy on campus. The vote passed with 70 percent voting yes.

Students were also asked if St. Cloud State Student Government should raise the minimum GPA requirements for the Student Government president, vice president, chief justice, executive assistant and all internal committee chairs from 2.0 to 2.5. The vote passed with 73 percent voting yes.
Johnson, a junior, wants to work to develop the awareness of all student organizations and opportunities for students.
“There’s a lot of great things that you can get involved in on campus,” Johnson said. “A lot of people miss out just from being uninformed, so I want there to be more effective communication on that part.”
Olson, a senior, is looking to spearhead a commitment to more education on the importance of membership in Student Government and more recognition to the great work students are already doing around campus and in the community.
“The goal is to motivate and inspire other students outside of Student Government to give back to their communities in any way they can,” Olson said.
Current Student Government President Summer Vogl is stepping down due to she will be student teaching off campus next school year.
Students who are interested in becoming involved with Student Government are encouraged to join a sub-committee.
