St. Cloud State University has a long and rich history of welcoming and supporting students from around the world. The campus community is greatly enriched by, and is committed to, the open exchange of students, scholars and ideas from more than 90 countries. This makes the new restrictions on immigration to the United States by residents of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen very concerning for our campus community.

The restrictions are the result of an executive order signed on Jan. 27, and as the president of the Association of American Colleges & Universities has stated “raised widespread concern from college administrators regarding the impact on both their institutional missions and on individual students, faculty members, and researchers on college and university campuses and beyond.” I want to assure you that the Center for International Studies at St. Cloud State has reached out to all of our international students including those from the affected countries to offer support and guidance. We are advising no international travel for individuals from affected countries for the next 90 days.
St. Cloud State University is committed to engaging as a member of a diverse and multicultural world – a key dimension of Our Husky Compact. I am deeply concerned about the well-being of our students, faculty and staff who may be impacted by the new federal restrictions on immigration. St. Cloud State supports the statement by the president of American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and joins with the rest of higher education to raise our concerns with policymakers and the community.
