A St. Cloud State University partnership with Centro de Enseñanza Técnica y Superior (CETYS) University in Mexico will develop connections between medical technology industry workers in Minnesota and Mexico.
This fall, CETYS University students studying for their Medical Manufacturing Masters in Engineering and Innovation will take St. Cloud State’s medical technology quality courses synchronously with students studying in the classroom in Plymouth.

“I believe this reciprocal partnership between CETYS and St. Cloud State enables students to have an educational experience with an important international interaction,” said Cathy Krier, medical technology quality program director. “An interaction that will spark new conversations, broadening the diversity of thought and intended applied learning.
“This experience prepares St. Cloud State students for the 21st century workforce with specialized competencies and skills needed in Minnesota and beyond.”
Both CETYS and St. Cloud State students work in global medical device companies.
St. Cloud State has been offering its medical technology quality program since 2012 and expanded to offer online, synchronous courses to support partnerships like this in 2015. Faculty in the medical technology quality program at St. Cloud State are experts in the MedTech industry and working professionals in Minnesota.

“It’s exciting to see our partnership with CETYS grow in a way that will foster international connections between students at our institutions,” said St. Cloud State Interim President Ashish Vaidya. “This will continue to strengthen our ties with Mexico, which is Minnesota’s second-largest export market and the world’s 15th largest economy.”
The medical technology quality program is part of the university’s medical technology (MedTech) graduate offerings, which include programs in regulatory affairs and services and applied clinical research.
CETYS University, founded in 1961, is a multi-campus private, non-profit university system located in three major cities along the Baja California Mexican border with California.
CETYS is well known in northwestern Mexico as a high-quality education institution. The university plays a leadership role in engineering technologies in Northwest Mexico, offering the first majors in this field in the region.
The Baja California region has a large concentration of medical device manufacturing companies with high value custom production capacity. Additionally, Baja California, along with San Diego, California, constitutes the broadest and most sophisticated binational group of organizations involved in the supply chain to produce medical products in North America.
This partnership grew out of a collaboration agreement between St. Cloud State and CETYS first signed by the President Earl H. Potter III in August 2015 on a trade mission to Mexico with Gov. Mark Dayton.
