Since 2009, the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central Minnesota has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research and programs.
In 2016, the walk at St. Cloud State raised $106,000. The related Real Men Wear Pink effort, which included Ashish Viadya, interim president, earned another $18,500.

Registration is 7 a.m. in the field house at Halenbeck Hall. The opening ceremony is 8:30 a.m.
The three-mile, non-competitive walk begins at 9 a.m. Share your images on social media using the #PinkWarriors and #MoreBirthdays hashtags.
This year’s honored survivor is Cindy (Feddema) Kunkel, St. Cloud.
Bob Motzko ’89, coach of men’s Huskies Hockey, has pledged to raise at least $5,000. He is a Real Men Wear Pink local leader, building awareness and raising dollars for the Oct. 14 walk.

Breast cancer by the numbers
Nationally, breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in women.
The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about one in eight.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, accounting for 29 percent of newly diagnosed cancers.
Since 1993, more than 13 million walkers across the United States have raised more than $810 million through Making Strides events. In 2016 alone, 1.4 million walkers across the nation raised more than $60 million.
