Herberger Business School is launching a new C-Conversations series that will bring C-level executives — CEOs, COOs, CFOs, etc. — to campus to speak with St. Cloud State University students about how to prepare for success in business. The series will feature a speaker each semester who serves as a C-level executive from companies across the nation and the world.
The first C-Conversation will feature Dorothy Billingsly of Billingsly Associates.
Billingsly will sit down for a C-Conversation with Herberger Business School Dean Dave Harris and a group of 25 student business school student leaders at noon Aug. 29 in Centennial Hall.
The event is open to alumni and the public via webinar. To register for the webinar contact Terri Mische at [email protected].
“It’s a conversation, not a presentation,” Harris said. “C-Conversations will be broad-based discussion, but they will always have a career component to them to help students, alumni and community members with their careers.”
Billingsly is founder and CEO of Billingsly Associates LLC, an executive search and consulting firm.
She has more than 30 years of experience conducting senior level, retained executive searches for board members, chairs, C-suite executives and their management teams. Her services also include culture shaping, leadership development and executive team coaching and alignment.
She is the author of “Chart Your Course,” a guide on career building and the job-search process and help students and people starting out in their careers think strategically about their future.
Billingsly is looking forward to the conversation.
College is a great time for students to begin doing their networking early on and become comfortable with making those connections. It’s fun to see the engagement, enthusiasm and fearlessness of students beginning to develop their networks, Billingsly said.
“Anyone interested in moving up in management will find this information very useful,” Harris said. “I’m very interested in giving our students and alumni a competitive advantage in the marketplace and that’s what this series is all about.”
In addition to the C-Conversation, Billingsly and Joel Rado, also of Billingsly Associates, will speak in business classes, counsel students in the Career Center, meet with Herberger Business School advisers and discuss talent acquisition with local executives.
“We’re adding value to the students’ experience here,” Harris said. “We want to constantly find ways to give our students a competitive advantage in the marketplace. It’s all about student success.”
Billingsly will hold a book signing ceremony for “Chart Your Course” from 1:30-3 p.m. Aug. 29 in the Husky Bookstore.
One way students can help prepare for a career in the business industry is by learning sales skills.
“Really in many ways, regardless if we’re in a sales role, technically we’re all not only selling ourselves, we’re selling our ideas,” she said. “Sales is really all-encompassing, in everything we do.”
