Dive into tradition with the Mid-Autumn Festival hosted by the Chinese Students and Scholars Association on Sept. 30 at St. Cloud State University. The festival is called Dreams of Han & Tang Dynasties and will be at 5:30 pm in the Ballroom in Atwood Memorial Center.
The association hopes to bring more understanding of Chinese culture to the people attending the festival. Dreams of Han & Tang Dynasties will showcase members of the association performing a traditional lion dance as well as martial arts, a folk dance, opera and more! The festival will feature 10 cultural programs, as well as four Chinese food dishes and a dessert.
The Chinese Students and Scholars Association was established in 2006, which makes 2017 their eleventh year as an organization. In addition to the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival they put on every year, they also hold a Spring Festival as well as Chinese classes where they teach students things about the language and everyday life in China.
Tickets for Dreams of the Han & Tang Dynasties are priced at $8 for students, $10 for adults, and $5 for children under 12 years of age. The first 350 people to buy a ticket will receive a free moon cake! Tickets will be sold on the first floor of Atwood Memorial Center 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday-Friday with the exception of holidays.
Cultural festivals are one way the university is providing a transformative educational experience for students to help prepare them to be global citizens at home, at work and in their communities. More than 1,000 students from 90-plus nations attend St. Cloud State, and cultural festivals give them an opportunity to share elements of their culture with the campus community.
