ST CLOUD TIMES — Minnesota taxpayers put up $225,000 to construct Eastman Hall in 1929. This year $18.6 million in renovations will start on that old gymnasium at St. Cloud State University to convert it into a student health center.
Construction starts next month with a crew to clear out any old asbestos and hazardous materials, said Phillip Moessner, St. Cloud State’s assistant vice president for facilities management. The building still has good bones, and some of its materials will be recycled, including the terrazzo floors in the stairwell.
“We’ll put a new polish on it, a new sheen, and bring it back to life,” Moessner said.
