Join members of the India Heritage Club at 5 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Atwood Ballroom in celebrating the cultures of India with “Aikyatha”.
“The word Aikyatha is derived from one of the languages of India which means unity,” said the president of India Heritage Club, Mounika Reddy Gangula. “We picked this theme because India is a diverse cultural country, and it is as important to show that how unity lies in the diverse cultures.”
The India Heritage Club will be presenting the diverse cultures though food, dance and song as well as through a traditional fashion show.
Tickets to the event are $7 at the kiosk in Atwood and $8 at the door for students and $10 for non-students.
“Attending this event helps everyone to understand and know about different cultures and traditions of India,” Gangula said. “This removes the cultural barriers between any of them. It helps everyone to travel virtually around India and tasting the authentic cuisine.”
India Heritage Club is open to all students of any background who are interested in the many aspects of India It enables those of Indian origin to enjoy Indian events they might otherwise miss, and helps others to appreciate and admire its rich cultural heritage by raising awareness about the region.
Cultural festivals are one way the university is providing a transformative educational experience for students to help prepare them to be global citizens at home, at work and in their communities. More than 1,000 students from about 90 nations attend St. Cloud State, and cultural festivals give them an opportunity to share elements of their culture with the campus community.
