Taking home first place in the Collegiate Student category with their production of ‘Men’s Ice Hockey, St. Cloud State vs. Miami (OH),’ Husky Productions adds another award to their full shelf.
More than 400 entries in four divisions competed for awards in five categories.
“We are honored to have our students, Husky Productions, and the team of dedicated individuals who make our sports media productions possible recognized for their achievements,” said Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Mark Springer.
Becoming a common occurrence, but never an easy task at the College Sports Media Awards, St. Cloud State’s Husky Productions set a new high with a 10th trophy in the 11-year existence of the Sports Video Group awards program. The only other school to achieve this feat is Ball State’s Ball State Sports Link.
This wasn’t the first top honor taken home this year.
Husky Productions submitted their broadcast work for three separate awards, and they took home first place in all three:
- Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts – 1st place – Television Sports Event Production
- Upper Midwest Emmy Foundation Student Production Award – 1st Place – Sports Live Event
- Sports Video Group College Sports Media Award – 1st Place – Outstanding Live Game Production
“Our students continue to distinguish themselves, and this year’s awardees reflect the very high quality of our mass communications program and long-time collaboration with St. Cloud State Athletics,” Springer said. “These awards further affirm their talents and development as upcoming media professionals.”
Two national wins and one regional capped off a year of hard work and determination leading to student success.
“Being able to win these production awards this season is an unbelievable experience and shows how dedicated the crew was,” said Greg Spaeth, Husky Productions student producer. “This is a testimony to how great this crew was and how much we grew together to make every broadcast topnotch.”
