St. Cloud State University’s Esports program is expanding its collection of academic programming and venues to be used for education, gaming and events.
Campus partnerships between Academic Affairs, Finance & Administration, Information Technology Services, Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Affairs have led to exciting and upcoming space expansions for Esports including new, innovative academic programming and an additional Esports venue dedicated to Esports education, gaming and events.
Expanding Esports Academic Programming
The growing Esports industry requires a broad set of skills and passion not limited to video gaming. Like traditional sports, Esports also demands talent in casting, event planning, governance, management, marketing, production and more.
St. Cloud State is building academic programming that will prepare our students for life and work in a variety of Esports-related careers. Recently, the College of Liberal Arts began preparing courses that will expand the growing number of academic offerings that align with Esports. They are expecting to begin teaching these courses in Spring 2023.
Expanding Esports Facilities
Esports is a massive and exciting combination of video games and competition with global appeal and the ability to bring people together in a way that no other sport allows.
The Atwood Quarry Center space will soon be revamped as a new Esports venue to enhance St. Cloud State’s ability to host Esports events, immersion camps and experiential learning opportunities. This new space will complement the existing Esports lounges, which are intended more for recreational play and league practice. The renovations are underway and are anticipated to be completed by the start of Spring 2023.
