A St. Cloud State University Associate Professor and Physics student each presented at an international conference in June while sharing their expertise and findings on research papers they completed at SCSU.
Dr. John Sinko, Associate Professor in SCSU’s Department of Physics and Astronomy, and undergraduate Physics student Brian Davis each presented at the 34th International Symposium on Space Technology and Science (ISTS) and 12th Nano-Satellite Symposium (NSAT) conference on June 3-9 in Kurume, Japan.
Dr. Sinko presented research papers on pressure dependent laser propulsion and laser ablation of various elemental metals in vacuum.
Davis presented an experimental research paper on laser removal of space debris. He was supported by an SCSU Student Research Travel Grant and the SCSU Mini-Mighty Fund, managed by Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Co-authors of the papers were Physics students Jordan Graupmann and Travis Mathwig and Mechanical Engineering student Amr Abdo. PSEO student Thor Lemke was an additional co-author on Davis’ paper.
The research papers will be published in the conference proceedings and will also be entered into peer review for potential publication in the Journal of Evolving Space Activities.
