A new exhibit “Crystal Hinge” opens Oct. 2 in the Kiehle Gallery on the St. Cloud State University campus.
The exhibit runs through Oct. 26 and is the first solo exhibition by emerging artist Lisa Kill. Kill’s work is interdisciplinary and found objects and papers are subjected to inks, washes, stains, solvents, salts and household chemicals.
For Kill, the studio is a transformational chamber where magic happens. When a small lake dries, all that is left is sediment. Found objects are crucial to this exhibition as they are what remains from long ago.
SCSU’s Department of Art will hold an opening reception in the gallery from 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 2. Kill will give an artist talk in the gallery beginning at 1:15 p.m. during the reception and the talk is open to the public.
Kill received her Associate of Fine Arts degree from Anoka Ramsey Community College and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Group exhibitions include Mirror Lab, A-Mill and Casket Arts in Minneapolis as well as Tiger Strikes Asteroid in New York City. She lives and works in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The Kiehle Gallery is located in the Kiehle Visual Arts Center on the campus of St. Cloud State. The gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
