The St. Cloud Police Department’s Campus Area Police Services (CAPS) team received a service award and didn’t think twice about paying it forward.

Receiving the Respect for Law Award and a check for $100 from the St. Cloud Optimist Club last fall, the CAPS team then gave the check to the St. Cloud State University’s Women’s Center.
“It means a lot to us as it reflects a respect for each of our departments’ work and how we collaborate,” said Lee LaDue, gender violence prevention coordinator. “Logistically, budgets are very tight and it truly allowed us to be able to print manuals for (the Bystander Intervention) for 12 workshop trainers.”
Trainers presented 18 programs for more than 750 participants in spring 2015.
“Knowing that the Women’s Center has needs for educational and training materials was something considered,” said Dan McClure, CAPS officer. “One of the things that should be at the forefront is the work to stop domestic violence. Having an additional source to print educational materials we thought would benefit greatly.”
The CAPS team is made up of three St. Cloud police officers who work the Southside campus area. The CAPS program is made possible through an agreement between the city of St. Cloud and St. Cloud State.
“The message is simple: Strong relationships is what drives success. Without it, we do not have the driving force to do great things when standing alone,” McClure said.
