St. Cloud State President Robbyn Wacker discusses how SCSU’s It’s Time approach has helped evolve and reach greater numbers of students as a campus community that is bold, innovative and focused, as well as the success that it has led to for our students.
What a terrific start to Fall 2022 for St. Cloud State University! Our campus has been brightened with fall colors and bustling with new and returning students eager to engage in academics and activities. We are enjoying a sense of renewed pride and passion for the traditions and strengths we share as a university of leaders, scholars, teachers, and learners.
There’s a lot of conversation on campus these days about one of my favorite topics: nurturing the teacher-scholar model that is a cornerstone of our It’s Time framework for making St. Cloud State the region’s University of Choice – leading the way in preparing the educators, scientists and business and community leaders of the future with a world-class education.

We will launch this fall with extraordinary care and caution for the safety and health of our students, faculty and staff as well as our St. Cloud neighbors. Issues and circumstances brought on by the pandemic promise to have a continuing impact on us all, and we are responding with new options, new directions and new ways to help our students achieve their educational goals.
It’s Time to take proactive steps to boldly alter the way we operate to better serve this generation of students. We will be reimagining what it means to be a regional comprehensive university and build on our strengths.
I have never been so proud of our Huskies community. When we began the spring semester in January, we did so with enthusiasm for new classes, opportunities and a vision for what it means to be a regional comprehensive university going forward. In fact, in the fall/winter edition of this magazine, I wrote of this enthusiasm and changes on the horizon: “It’s time to take proactive steps to boldly alter the way we operate to better serve this new generation of students.”
One of the dimensions of Our Husky Compact is to “Act with Personal Integrity and Civic Responsibility” which encourages self-awareness and personal and civic identity, and making a difference in the civic life of our communities. We have an opportunity to act and make a difference in the communities in Minneapolis that have been directly impacted this past week.
Jani and I watched the video. I have been reflecting on the unnecessary and tragic death of Mr. George Floyd and over these past three days I have been trying to find a way – as a person and as your President – to articulate my feelings of anguish and frustration. I would like to share the following with you.
A member of the St Cloud State University community reported that they have been diagnosed with lab confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus). Once someone is lab confirmed with COVID-19, the Minnesota Department of Health conducts an investigation about the nature and circumstances of the case. For this case, they have determined that the risk of exposure at our university is low and similar to the exposure one might have while being out in the community.
