SCSU set to host Tech Savvy event for girls in STEM

St. Cloud State University will host Tech Savvy on Feb. 24, an event geared towards getting girls in grades 5-8 interested and excited about the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) career field.

The one-day conference is organized by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The sixth annual event begins at 8 a.m. on Feb. 24 in ISELF, with attendees participating in four different workshops throughout the day.

SCSU professor, former coach honored for helping girls and women break barriers

A St. Cloud State University professor and former coach has been recognized for her work in helping break barriers in providing equity in sports for girls and women of all ages.

Paula U’Ren, a professor and chairperson of SCSU’s Department of Kinesiology and former SCSU Softball head coach, was honored with the Breaking Barriers Award by National Girls & Women in Sports Day — Minnesota.

SCSU’s Registered Nursing program named one of Minnesota’s best

St. Cloud State University has been named one of the top Registered Nursing (RN) programs in Minnesota.

SCSU is ranked as the No. 2 bachelor’s program in Minnesota by RegisteredNursing.org, a leading resource for the nursing industry. The ranking values how effectively a program supports students in their journey toward licensure and beyond. SCSU was also ranked as the No. 3 school overall in the state.

SCSU, St. Cloud community honor Martin Luther King Jr. during MLK Community Celebration

St. Cloud State University and the surrounding community honored the life, legacy and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the annual MLK Community Celebration in January.

The 12th annual community event, with the theme of “Our Beloved Community: Our Work is Not Done Yet” was led by SCSU and the City of St. Cloud along with community partners.

SCSU continues to offer successful MedTech programs as Minnesota earns federal recognition

MedTech is a constantly evolving field, and St. Cloud State University’s campus in Plymouth is well-equipped to continue to train the future workforce.

A new federal recognition could grow that demand even further, as the Biden-Harris administration announced in October that the Minnesota MedTech 3.0 proposal has been selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce as one of its inaugural Tech Hubs.

Kiehle Gallery announces ‘Gestures of Resistance’ exhibit Jan. 16-Feb. 8

A new exhibit ”Gestures of Resistance” by Rachel Breen opens Jan. 16 in the Kiehle Gallery on the St. Cloud State University campus.

The exhibit runs through Feb. 8 and features an exhibit that serves as a call to action. Breen’s work features mostly textile assemblages made from used clothing, some of which were made during Breen’s Fullbright Fellowship in India where she examined fair trade initiatives, reuse strategies and sustainable fabric printing and dying traditions.
