It’s been a landmark fall for St. Cloud State University as we celebrated a series of sesquicentennial events with campus and community folks and had opportunities to connect and reflect on our history and heritage.
On a fine autumn evening in 1930, homecoming festivities at St. Cloud State Teachers College kicked off with the dedication of Eastman Hall as a new physical education center and hub of campus life and athletics for the school’s 883 students.
Not so many decades ago a college education was widely considered to be open only to a rare few with substantial financial or intellectual resources. But as our society and our economy evolved and changed, so did opportunities for students to pursue the education that would help to develop the ideals of hope, courage, resilience and adaptability.
Since my first major address at convocation this fall, I have invited the campus community to join me in making St. Cloud State a university of first choice in Minnesota. To some that sounds like a bold statement – to be first choice. It is not so bold when that goal is realistic and attainable. In the proof, it’s obvious.
I’m ready to put in the work and I look forward to seeing the results of what we can do together to unlock the unique potential in all of our students for the betterment of Central Minnesota, of our state and of communities we impact throughout the world.
