Biography

Christopher P. Lehman is a professor in the Social Sciences Department at St. Cloud State University. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and he has been a visiting fellow at Harvard University’s Hutchins Institute for African and African American Research. His articles have appeared in Minnesota History and The Chronicles of Oklahoma. In 2020 his book Slavery’s Reach: Southern Slaveholders in the North Star State won the Minnesota Book Award in the “Minnesota Nonfiction” category. In 2025 his book It Took Courage: Eliza Winston's Quest for Freedom was a finalist in that same category.
