St. Cloud State University’s Benjamin Bourgoin, Inver Grove Heights, has been recognized for making a difference in his community through leadership in community issues.
Bourgoin was selected as a 2015 Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact for his commitment to better understand the root causes of social issues and effective mechanisms for creating lasting change.
“Ben has been an effective and hard-working leader in student organizations and activities that address complex social issues,” said Earl H. Potter III, president of St. Cloud State.
In fall 2014, Bourgoin worked with on-and-off campus constituent groups to hold the community-wide “We Are One” coalition rally in support of community members facing anti-Muslim views.
In his role as president of the Social Responsibility Student Organization, Bourgoin led the efforts to host ongoing educational rallies and teach-in session relating to human rights, racism and injustice.
“My vision is that every person can break through their self-doubt and realize their dreams to create a positive world,” Bourgoin said.
