The concert features the St. Cloud State Campus Band performing works by Frank Ticheli, David Holsinger and movie themes by John Williams.
The University of Manitoba Wind Ensemble will open with selections from Bizet’s “Carmen” and will close with music from “West Side Story” by Leonard Bernstein.
St. Cloud State Wind Ensemble’s program features “Testament” by American composer David Maslanka.
Maslanka wrote “Testament” in response to 9/11. The work is his statement that music has the power to harmonize and heal.
The program finale brings together both wind ensembles in Ottorino Resphigi’s “Pines of Rome.”
The University of Manitoba Wind Ensemble, led by conductor Fraser Linklater, is visiting St. Cloud as part of a tour from Winnipeg to the Twin Cities. The group has performed throughout Manitoba and Western Canada.
The St. Cloud State Wind Ensemble is a select group of 35 performers led by conductor Catherine Bushman. The Campus Band is comprised of about 40 musicians from St. Cloud State and the St. Cloud Community.
A reception will follow the concert. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for students and senior citizens or free with a St. Cloud State ID. A portion of the proceeds go toward scholarships for St. Cloud State music students.
