They come from towns such as Vesta and Menahga. They hail from Russia, Florida and California. They hold passports from Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Canada and China.
More than 1,610 students are graduating Spring Semester. Nearly 1,180 are expected to participate in Commencement ceremonies 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. May 9 in the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Many will share graduation-weekend photos using the #SCSUGrads hashtag.

Delivering the 10:30 a.m. address is Ashley Arhart ’15, Austin, a magna cum laude bachelor’s degree graduate in Marketing.
Daniela Lorenz ’15, Ellsworth, Wisconsin, a summa cum laude bachelor’s degree graduate in Communication Studies, will speak at the 3 p.m. ceremony.
Sharing alumni remarks will be Floyd Balentine ’98, Oakdale. A pilot for Pinnacle Airlines/Delta Connection, Balentine is president-elect of the Alumni Association.
Representing the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system will be trustee John (Jay) Cowles, who is president of a Minneapolis-based investment company.
The Hon. David Kleis ’89 will bring greetings from the City of St. Cloud. Representing faculty will be Tom Hergert, learning resources services professor.
At St. Cloud State an A average corresponds to a 4.0 grade-point average. Undergraduate honors are:
- Gold tassel | Summa cum laude (with highest honor) = 3.75 to 4.00
- Silver tassel | Magna cum laude (with great honor) = 3.50 to 3.74
- Red tassel | Cum laude (with honor) = 3.25 to 3.49
