Duluth News Tribune — Throughout 40 years of coaching baseball at Deer River, Jim Erzar ’75 has made some connections.
“He knows someone wherever we go,” Warriors sophomore Jeffrey Moore said. “I mean, we were at a Twins game and he started talking to the base ump. No idea how he knew that guy, but it was pretty cool.”
Erzar underscored Moore’s assessment when he asked where Cloquet was playing today’s Class AA state tournament quarterfinal — Joe Faber Field or Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud. Told the Lumberjacks were playing at Putz, Erzar recalled umpiring baseball and officiating basketball with the stadium’s namesake while attending St. Cloud State.
